Barcelona, Xmas and New Year!

Well, I haven't blogged for so long I don't quite know where to start. It's the first weigh in of the year this evening and I am not looking forward to it much. It's also the first day back at work and my suit is uncomfortably tight so I know weigh in is going to be dreadful ... will deal with that later.

It has been a full on two weeks of naughtiness for me. First off, the weekend before Christmas was fabulous as Hubby and I went to Barcelona for our anniversary. Wow, what an amazing place! So much art and culture, beautiful modernist architecture, very very pretty especially with the Christmas lights ... and tapas everywhere you look. And I love tapas! Delicious :P We certainly took in our fair share of the local specialities. Well, it would have been rude not to. Personal tapas favourites were yummy little paprika sausages and these fluffy fried potatoes in a creamy spicy sauce. We had a very peculiar meal in the hotel restaurant, which was completely empty apart from us, the chef wailing in the kitchen and a waitress who we suspect hadn't slept in several days LOL. It was a tasty but rather surreal experience. On our anniversary evening we went to a little seafood restaurant by the port called Cal Pinxo and I had the regional speciality paella which is made with black rice (made with squid ink). My word, that was tasty! Hubby had some sea snails (big ugly spiky shells but deeeelish) and also the biggest prawns I have ever seen. They also have excellent pastries in Barcelona and rather lovely local cava.

Then since we got back on the Tuesday before Christmas it has been go, go go! I think over the whole two weeks hubby and I managed to have one night in by ourselves so the rest of the time we were out and about eating, drinking and generally being merry. All good fun of course, but it has left me feeling festively plump. Some of the highlights included having people over on Christmas Eve for drinks and roast pork sandwiches, our friend H's birthday buffet and cocktails, new years eve chilli and more cocktails with Greggles and Sammy-Jo, dinner, guitar hero at Pam and Calvin's, an Italian feast at the sis-in-law's and a hangover MacDonald's yesterday afternoon. I think I may have drunk alcohol every day and there was certainly no short supply of Christmas sweets pretty much everywhere.

It was fun, but my gosh do I feel round. I actually think I might be glad to get back on the wagon today. Tesco are visiting this evening with supplies and I shall be replacing the Xmas naughties in the fridge with a selection of fruit and veg along with various other saintliness.

Gem x
