Keeping it up
Nice one Gemma for keeping up the blog this week while I have been off work. I would have been on sooner however my wireless usb adaptor has broken and i hate sitting up stairs on my laptop...can get lonely hehehe.
Mondays weigh in was yet again not a good one. However i had a fantastic weekend at my cousins wedding ( I was a bridesmaid incase you didn't already know hehe) The food on the day was yummy (especially the cheese cake and the chololate wedding cake) and the breakfast the next morning was also yummy (a full english...weeeeeell, couldn't be the only one not to have one, would have been very rude). I put ON 2 lbs. Hey, I heard the gasps from here. But I am not upset about it and I know next mondays will not be great after having a week off work. So will be full steam ahead next week. Get back on the the diet track...I know I can do it. Now I will really GO FOR IT. No more hen nights or weddings to fight with...THIS IS IT.
I haven't done to badly this week. However there has been a few slip ups and NO GYM. Yikes.
I am still well up for loosing a stone by july...COOOOOOOOOOME OOOOOOON

Lemon Meringue Pah!
I have to say, I was a little over excited when I found a Lemon Meringue Pie recipe, adapted for slimming world that actually contained 0 Syns! Lemon Meringue Pie that is absolutely FREE ... There is some justice in the world. So, last night I had some Quark left over in the fridge ... it's a skimmed milk cream cheese that I have been buying because slimming world rave about it a lot but I usually end up throwing it away (Don't tell the Love Food Hate Waste campaign on me, please)! Anyway, I had this left over Quark that was about to expire and decided to make the Syn Free Lemon Meringue Pie. And here it is :

That looks pretty edible, huh? It looks meringue-y anyway. I left it to cool a little bit and then the temptation got too great and I thought I would have a sneaky spoonful. Bluuuuurgh!!! I can not tell you how revolting this was. So revolting that I couldn't even swallow the first spoonful. It was kind of like lemony-egg with foam on the top and covered in a rubbery skin. It was unholy. If you come across this recipe anywhere please do not bother. I have bothered for you and was almost sick in the kitchen bin. I scraped the remaining lemony-egg concoction away before Hubby got back ... He is already sceptical about my attempts at low fat baking thanks to the strange muffins I tried out earlier in the diet. He is pretty convinced that you can't make low fat baking work. I hope he isn't right, although my experiences so far suggest otherwise!

Six Weeks of Slimming World.
After six weeks of following the Slimming World diet (albeit loosely) I managed to lose a measly 1lb this week taking me down to 11st 6lbs. That's OK I guess ... undone some of last weeks damage. I suppose I could blame yet another weekend where I ate too much and drank too much. It would be true. I did eat too much and I did drink too much but it's not the weekends fault is it? It is mine. I'm not going to beat myself up over it or make excuses I'm just going to print myself out a new food diary sheet and start afresh today. A red day I think.

A Fast Food Observation
I went to aerobics last night. I worked hard and I think I feel like I'm getting fitter. I might even be getting a little bit of muscle definition back ... well, maybe. I was absolutely ravenous when I finished the class so I was relieved to know that Hubby had made me some roast chicken, new potatoes and salad for dinner. I was very glad that dinner was waiting for me at home otherwise I might have been tempted to stop for something quick, tasty and fattening. And then I noticed just how easy that would have been. Call me obsessive if you like but I counted the number of fast food and takeaway outlets I passed in between dropping my aerobics buddy off at home and reaching my front door. That's just under four miles. Have a guess. I'll give you a clue, it's more than 10.
26. There were 26 takeaway places in less than four miles. And I didn't count pubs or places that sell microwave meals or ready to eat sandwiches. I didn't even count places that I knew were there but couldn't see, such as Perfect Pizza and the chippy next door to it, which were blocked by some trees. 26! I just thought that was an obscene number. I'm horrified actually that they can all stay in business. Really and truly horrified.

Square One ... Almost.
It was bound to happen eventually. The chocolate tiffins finally caught up with me ... and they were being chased by several bottles of wine, a few curly wurlys and some samosas.
My weekly weigh-in post has been delayed slightly as I wasn't able to weigh in till Tuesday evening. "Marvellous, " I hear you say, "An extra day of dieting can only be good for the graph!" Well, alas! It didn't quite work out like that. I may as well just come out and say it. I gained 1 and 1/2 lbs. That puts me back to 11st 7lbs. Almost, but not quite, back to square one. Not good. Not good at all.
After weigh in I immediately packed my gym bag with kit for aerobics this evening. I'll be giving the slightly disturbing, exercise addicted, manic eating disorder girl a run for her money at class tonight. Fact.
It's time to stop playing around now and follow Jayne's saintly example. I will reach my goal and I shall do it without moaning about the lack of pizza.

Thats more like it
For the first time since I started this diet I wasn't nervous about getting on the scales. I felt quite excited as I knew i'd been really good over the past week and even did extra exercise.
The results...*drum roll*
I LOST 5lb wooohooooo very pleased with that. I now weigh 11st 5lbs Which is a total loss of 8lb. So I have 1 stone to loose before I reach my goal.
I am going to the gym tonight, but that may be it for this week as I am leaving work early on Thursday to have a spray tan and I have got Friday off work to prepare for Louise's wedding. I will see how I feel about doing the gym again tomorrow. Shall see how I get on tonight. I have also decided I must do sit ups every night else I will never get rid of my jelly belly lol.

Busy weekends help
I have come to the conclusion that if you have a busy weekend, it is so much easier to diet. I mean, sitting at home where all the goodies are does not help does it. So, get busy and the weekends are so much easier to get through diet wise.
Its weigh in today. I feel I have done really well this week, so I hope the scales agree and show me a loss.

Diet Rehab
After a stern telling off (by myself) I have been back on the diet road this week. Feeling much better about it to.
I have mostly been on green days with just 1 red so far. I went to the gym on Wednesday and going again today, however I won't be doing any sit-ups today as my stomach still hurts from Wednesdays session. I'm still not really that keen on going to the gym, but I know its a major part of getting slim, fit and healthy so I drag myself there.
Now, remember the blog about green tea tablets??? Well. I have decided not to take them since hehehe. I felt strange and drunk all day. I was talking and typing VERY quickly which was actually quite fun to be honest, however I knew that this is not how I should be feeling, especially at work. The thing is, I didn't sleep very well that night either. My mind was having its own little work out. I decided not to take them the next day, but I haven’t ruled out taking them again. If and when I do, I'll give you an update.
Anyway, i have a rumbly in my tumbly, so i best go and eat my salad.
Happy sandwich week peeps.

All Hail the Sandwich
Now, sandwiches don't really have a happy place on slimming world. It's the bread. Apart from the skinny no good for toast Nimble brand bread and the occasional Healthy Extra (b) piece of wholemeal, baked goods equal syns. Surprisingly lots of syns.
I have succumbed to bread this week. It was the good stuff. It was lovely bread with olives in it. I have guestimated 10.5 syns in my ham salad olive ciabatta. A bit of a blip but I figured there's no point torturing myself ... I needed some good stodge.
And as it turns out, I was completely justified in giving in to my craving. This week has been British Sandwich Week (May 11-17). It's true ... sandwiches have their own week. Who knew!

Kitchen Lazyness = Disaster
I'm working hard this week. I have an assignment for my MA course due in on Friday ... I've been suffering from writers block and it's been a bit of a struggle to write to be honest. So, after working all day and with another long night of study in front of me there was no way I was cooking anything labour intensive.
I checked the bible (aka The Slimming World Food Directory) for ideas, and decide that fresh filled pasta is the way to go. Popping into my local morrisons I pick up a packet of Spinach and Ricotta Tortellini (the single portion 150g pack) at 5 syns thinking i've done pretty well. After all, I avoided any temptation to buy the full sized pack and eat the lot (which has been known). But, oh ... sauce. You can't have pasta without sauce. Sauce means cooking, which I have already ruled out. Luckily the lovely people at Morrisions have thought of that and above the tortellini lives the "Eat Smart" ready made sauce varieties. I quickly dismissed the carbonara. Shame, as it's my favourite but I'm not hungry enough to forget that creamy sauces are bad news. Spicy Tomato and Pepper sauce, on the other hand, looks like a smart move. Bag it, and after getting the cat her felix, navigating around the wine aisle without stopping and swiping a packet of Skinny Cow less-than-three-percent-fat ice cream lollies we're good to go.
So let's just examine the evidence. Spicy tomato and pepper sauce. Tomatoes ... Free. Peppers ... Free. Spicy, must be a bit of chilli in it ... Free. That can't be many syns can it surely? Think a-ruddy-gain Sherlock. 6.5 syns per pot!?!?! For vegetables!?!?! You have got to be KIDDING!!! They were not kidding. I ate half the pot, disgruntled. Looking at the ingredients it's clear to see where the calories come from. Red wine, Olive Oil, Cornflour, Sugar! To add insult to injury it wasn't even tasty. It was too sweet, not enough garlic (italians would be appauled) and without the merest hint of spicyness. Very, very poor. Perhaps I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't usually make my own? And I make a great spicy tomato sauce ... I just couldn't be bothered. And there's the rub. Perhaps that's why the nation has an obesity problem? Because we can't be bothered? And while we're not bothered the food lords at Morrisions and Tescos and Sainsburys and wherever else have been slipping sugar into our bloomin' tomato sauce while we weren't looking, to cover up the fact that they are using rubbishy flavourless tomatoes that were grown in a lab and flown half way around the world before they got mushed up with a load of unneccary ingredients (that wouldn't have been needed if they just used some decent tomatoes in the first place) and stuffed them in a jar!
... and breath. So there you go. Cooking from scratch is the way to go. I suppose that's a good thing about this Slimming World diet? You have to think about food, and ingredients, and cooking them into something healthy, tasty and satifying. I have certainly eaten a lot less rubbish since I've been (trying) to follow it. Good for the body, good for the mind, not so good for the assignment I should be writing while I'm moaning about pre-prepared sauces.
And don't even get me started on the "Skinny" Cow lollies! ;)

Lucky Escape
I had a lucky escape this week at the weigh in. Very lucky. I shall be waiting for the Chocolate Tiffins to catchup with me, thats for sure. Perhaps they haven't fully metabolised yet? Anyway, I pretty much stayed the same ... well I have lost 1/4 lb according to last weeks weigh in but it was on a different set of scales so I'm saying I'm the same. That currently makes me 11st 5 and 1/2 lbs. Still too heavy for me but going in the right direction at least.

What a disaster
Last nights weigh in was dreadful. I'd had a bad week really. Can't really blame the weekend. Didn't do well most days as i kept forgetting to write down what I was eating and as I was at home most afternoons looking after fin I just grabbed whatever was available as I didn't get chance to do much shopping.
Saturday I went to hoo farm with finley, Tony,Louise and lee...I did take a salad to eat, however I did steal a mini pork pie and mini scotch egg from the picnic. THEN i had an ice cream. THEN of the evening I went to an all you can eat chinese and drank 4 vodka's!!!
Sunday I was good for most of the day. We had a bbq of the evening where I did have a chicken breast and 2 quorn sausages which was ok as I was on a red day. However I did have 2 baps.
So...weigh in time. I have gained 1 & 3/4lbs...NOT GOOD AT ALL but i did know i'd had a bad week. So the strict diet starts again as of today.

Yet Another Dodgy Weekend
Ho-hum. It was all going so well, and then it happened again. The W word. Weekend.
Friday night was an unprecedented disaster. After successfully avoiding the diet taboo that is Indian Takeaway (opting instead for a rather lovely 4.5 syn homemade lasagne) I thought I was safe to open that bottle of wine. Alas, no sooner as I had drank my syns cue our mate Mark at the door with another bottle, ice lollies and Chocolate Tiffins, which I had never heard of and being the sort of girl who will try most things once I decided to indulge :) Oooops. Fortunately I couldn't find Tiffins in the food directory so I have decided to pretend that never happened.
Saturday was ooooookay I suppose ... I didn't gorge, but I also didn't keep track of what I was eating. And I had two glasses of wine.
Sunday I was good ... We had a BBQ at home and I ate chicken and lean steaks with BBQ'd peppers onions and mushrooms. Very yummy. I didn't think I had gone over my syns but it turns out tortilla wraps are more than i thought. Wouldn't have eaten that if I had known.
I dare say the scales will tell a rather sad story this evening (especially as I have just been reminded of the stuffed crust pizza I ate after weigh in last week ... the less said about that the better I think). It's also time for Mr P to make an appearance so I could find myself back to square one quite frankly. Anyhoo, I will tiptoe to the scales later on and see how it goes. Wish me luck.

The Grass is Greener on a Green Day
I have had THE greenest week this week. It's friday and I am yet to have a Red Day ... I wonder if that's ok? I'll be having a red day on Sunday, as if the weather stays nice we're hoping to have a bit of a BBQ ... otherwise it'll be a grilled bacon breakfast and a roast dinner :)
Therin lies a problem. You see, I can plan for two days in advance but I still have NO idea what I'm going to eat for lunch in ten minutes time. I should have made a frittata last night before I went to Yoga but decided to watch Hollyoaks instead. Shall I just go greenie again? Our friend has just returned from a month in China. We usually see him over the weekend and I suspect he'll be wanting some good old english food - a Balti! (Yes, it is english food ... the concept of the balti was inspired by indian cooking but invented in Birmingham. A waiter in an asian restaurant in Edinburgh told me that in North India the word Balti means bucket. True story.) Anyway, I digress. Balti, with all it's flavoursome tastyness doesn't sit well with any diet, but it does kinda fit better into a green day so I wouldn't have to count (much) for my rice and a Dahl (chick pea curry) if relatively low in syns too.
However ... I still have no idea what to eat for lunch.

Monday's Weigh In
I lost 1lb this week. Not as much as i had hoped, but it's a loss all the same so I am pleased about that. I now weigh 11st 8 1/4 lbs.
Trouble is. I am going to an all you can eat chinese on Saturday for my cousins 2nd hen night. Looking forward to it though. Will mostly eat noodles so shouldn't do too badly for next mondays weigh in...Fingers crossed anyway. Will be good apart from that.
Won't be going to the gym tonight as my son is not well so leaving work at lunch time. Will defo be going on Friday as normal though.
I am going to have a red day today. Got chicken for tea. Yum. Not really got a lot more to say. Seems to be going ok. Weight dropping in the right direction, but just wish there was a quicker way of doing it lol.

Yesterday's Weigh
Yesterday was weigh in day ... I lost 1 and 3/4 lbs taking me down to 11 st 5 and 3/4 lbs. Excellent, scales are going in the right direction! I think the cut-down-on-syns-in-the-week-so-i-can-have-wine-at-the-weekend approach might just work out.
However, there are a couple of things that might not be quite right about this weeks weigh in.
However, there are a couple of things that might not be quite right about this weeks weigh in.
- I weighed myself earlier due to the bank holiday weekend so I could have a hassle free evening.
- I used my moms scales, not jaynes scales so they may not be accurate. I might not actually have got away with eating a bag of weight watchers mini cheddars on saturday night.
- I celebrated the weight loss with four slices of stuffed crust pizza. It was amazing. I don't regret it one bit.
Pizza, I'm afraid is my absolute total and utter achillis heel. There is no substitue. I like the american style deep doughy ones with loads of cheese, I like the sophisticated crispy stonebaked italian style ones with loads of flavoursome toppings, I even like the frenchbread pizzas they serve in our school canteen (but not the rectangle cardboard variety they sometimes serve. That, in my opinion can't rightly be called a pizza - the topping to base ratio is all wrong, and the base itself tastes like chalk).
So, the pizza combined with the early weigh in and the alternative set of scales may equal a dissapointing weightloss next week, I fear. Although I have to say ... the pizza was worth it!

Tempted by....
Well today I am on a red day and I am just making burgers. I am having this on a brown bap(HEb). with a few syn free chips (HEb). I have felt quite hungry all day though so can't wait till i chomp this down.
So....what have i been tempted to eat today?? What did i crave and give in to...Chocolate, crisps, ice cream, biscuits??? NOPE.....
A jam sarnie!!! hahaha. Finley had one for his tea and I really really fancied one. So I had one. I Couldn't resist. A rough estimate on syns is Bread 3 and Jam 2. I will double check this later on.
I have behaved myself this week. So there better be a weight loss on monday..OR ELSE haha.

Had another go at making the slimming world recipe muffins last night. I would say that they are definitely better second time around :) This time I substituted the blueberries for banana. Banana Bran Muffins are definitely a better combination, and are a little bit breakfastey. Still not quite sweet enough somehow though. Perhaps a shot of honey or something? Still think chocolate chunks would help them out!!!
As predicted my Friday night was was a tiny bit heavy on the syns however I saved plenty up during the week so I'm not worried ... I really have got to find a better way of eating pizza though. Napolina mini pizza bases are the lowest i can find at 11 syns each but to be honest, they just aren't cutting it with me. Perhaps I'll try the base mixes, I wonder if they are less?
My scales don't appear to have moved AT ALL this week, although the official weighing happens on Jayne's posh digital ones and mine are notoriously temperamental so I'll just have to wait and see on Monday.

Super green tea diet tablets
Gemma told me that green tea was good for dieting...so decided to give this ago. I have some Super green tea diet tablets from the health shop. You take 2 a day and this speeds up your metabolism. Well i took a tablet at 10:00 this morning and within half an hour I started to feel tipsy. Which is quite a nice, but strange feeling as I am at work hehe?
I have not stopped talking for about an hour now and it has also sped up my talking and my typing. So hope it has this affect on my metabolism. I will take another this afternoon and again tomorrow. But if I carry on like this I may have to give them a miss. I don't feel ill, just very speedy :) I don't have tea, coffee or coke really so I am not used to caffeine.
Will let you know how I get on.
Food wise I have been very good. There are biscuits in the office but I have not had any. The gym went well yesterday and I will be going again on Friday.

Ruddy Big Russians
So far this week has been going well ... I've been extra good with my syns so that I can be more flexible at the weekend. I think I have probably only had about 12 in total! I was extra specially good yesterday when there were big gooey bakery cookies in the office and I didn't eat one :) That was quite an achievement.
I also went to aerobics and the instructor told us a story about "The Big Russian Ballet", who are a ballet company, from Russia, who are big. Very big ... in fact, not one of them is under 18 stone and if a dancer goes under that weight they have to leave! I think the moral of the story was that although they were on the heavy side, they were healthy, toned, gorgeous and graceful. It reminded me not to focus on the scales too much and think long term about having a healthier lifestyle generally. Having said that, the story was possibly aimed at the girl in the front of the class who blatently has an eating disorder and was manically throwing herself around like her life depended on it ... even during the cool down. Scary.
Still haven't decided what colour day to have today ... I think I want salmon for tea so possibly a red day?!
